Top prize in crab challenge is $1,000
There are still a few spots open in the inaugural Oregon Coast Culinary Institute’s Oregon Dungeness Crab Challenge.
Chefs can compete in the American Culinary Federation-sanctioned hot food competition on Feb. 28 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the OCCI facility on the campus of Southwestern Community College. The entry fee is $50 for ACF members and $100 for non-ACF members.
The event is open to the public to come and watch, and taste some of the dishes.
Competitors will have two hours to complete their meals, an hour and 50 minutes for cooking and 10 minutes for plating.
The winner will receive $1,000. Second place will be $500 and third place will receive $300.

ACF practical test at OCCI on Feb. 27
An American Culinary Federation will hold a practical exam for all levels of certification on Friday, Feb. 27 at the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute on the Southwestern Community College Campus in North Bend.
Certification through the ACF demonstrates skill, knowledge and professionalism to the food service industry, according to the ACF Web site.
