Salmon fishermen already are thinking about the upcoming sport and commercial seasons — and so, too, are state and federal agencies.

Information will be available at a series of meetings starting Wednesday:

• An organizational meeting for the newly formed Oregon Alliance for Sustainable Salmon Fisheries will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Charleston Marina RV Park. Bandon salmon troller James Moore said it is a meeting for those interested in sustainable salmon fisheries and will represent both commercial and sport fishing interests. For more information, Moore can be contacted at 396-6393.

• The Oregon Salmon Industry Group meeting, cosponsored by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Oregon Coastal Zone Management Association, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Hallmark Inns and Resort, 7445 S.W. Elizabeth St., in Newport. This is the annual meeting at which sport and commercial fishermen get a look at what the salmon returns were and what options may be considered for seasons in 2009.

• The Oregon Salmon Commission will hold a public meeting immediately after the industry group meeting in the same room at the Hallmark Inn, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. For more information, call Salmon Commission Administrator Nancy Fitzpatrick at (541) 994-2647 .

• The Pacific Fishery Management Council will hold public hearings to receive comments on the proposed ocean salmon fishery management options adopted by the council. In Oregon, the meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 30, in the Umpqua Room of the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive  in Coos Bay. For more information, call the council at (503) 820-2280.
