Magazine picks local mill worker for its March issue

COOS BAY — Generations of men have been known to deflect criticism for their interest in Playboy magazine by insisting they subscribe for the interviews.

Jamie Holly doesn’t think those readers will be disappointed when the March issue hits newsstands. The Coos Bay woman read one of the interviews before it hit print. She got the sneak preview because it’s about her.

“They make it really funny,” she said. “When they sent me a copy, I was laughing so hard. I loved it.”

Holly can thank her sister, Stacie Chase, for getting her featured in the popular men’s publication. After taking some pictures of Holly for a MySpace account, Chase sent copies to Playboy for its Employee of the Month feature.

Chase didn’t tell her sister what she had done, so Holly was a bit surprised when she got a call from a Playboy spokesperson.

“It was exciting,” she said.

Holly works as an offbearer, grading, sorting and pulling veneer for Roseburg Forest Products at the Coquille plywood mill. The job description caught the Playboy spokesman’s interest.

“He said, ‘Women that look like you don’t do this kind of work,’” she recalled.

They offered her the feature and Holly accepted.

“I was going to do it. No doubt about it,” she said. “It’s not like it’s trashy. It’s tasteful.”

The magazine flew Holly, who is single, down to Los Angeles last summer for the interview and a pair of photo shoots. She told her boss what she was doing and got the time off to do it.

“They were cool about it,” she said.

She was only in Southern California for a couple of days and didn’t get a chance to visit the sights, though she enjoyed the star treatment.

“When I arrived at the airport there was a driver holding a card with my name on it,” she said.

She didn’t get to meet Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy, though she had the photo shoots in a Beverly Hills mansion.

One featured her wearing the gloves, apron, arm guards and other clothing she wears on the job. The other had her garbed in far less.

“I was just in heels and jewelry,” she said. “I felt good like that.”

The shoots lasted several hours. Her sister noted that while Holly works hard to keep her body in shape, having to pose for shots took a toll on the 1993 Marshfield graduate.

“The next day I was sore,” she said. “It’s insane.”

Chase said she is proud of her sister.

“I think she’s beautiful,” she said. “I was curious if they would take her.”

Holly is looking forward to Feb. 15, when the magazine goes on sale.

“It’s not an easy thing to get into,” she said. “I realize how lucky I am to have gotten in.”

Hey, with the market the way it is right now, RFP should be using this playboy thing and their employee to help sale some plywood.

I want to know why there are 'moral' folks that will 'trash' talk anyone or anything that's does not fit their world. I can only say 'we need more Outliers' like Jamie in our area and our state. Besides Powers should not be the only area of Coos to get into the National lime lite! Let's just not get there (lime lite) doing something illegal! Besides, If the creator didn't not make beautiful folks he would have made us all ugly, like me!!

Okay, blog police-I will try this one more time....While you guys are looking at the photo-try reading the article. She is NOT the only woman who works in that part of the mill...I'm sure the other women don't appreciate what she had to say. Why isn't she back at work yet? Afraid to go there? Just wondering...

Congratulations Jaime! Thats an awsome experience to have that not many have the chance to be apart of! To all who critisize, Go to He-ll. Your just jealous you cant have the "playboy" experience. thumbs up. muah hun.

Tacky wrote on Feb 10, 2009 2:38 PM:

I think this is all great, but I think she should fix her myspace albums a little to reflect her image of a model in one album and a mom in another. Having her pose nearly nude in one photo next to a photo of her daughter I think is a little tacky. That's an easy fix. You need to keep your modeling separate from your job as a mommy.

I Know wrote on Feb 8, 2009 5:35 PM:

Yes, She Does have 5 Kids.

WEBSTER wrote on Feb 7, 2009 7:42 PM:

THE ONLY REASON PLAYBOY WOULD EVEN CONSIDER THIS CHICK IS BECAUSE IT IS A WASHED UP MAGAZINE. PLAYBOY CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY THE BIG BUCKS TO THE REALLY GORGEOUS BABES THAT THEY USE TO. JAIME YOU ARE A LITTLE ABOVE AVERAGE FOR A COOS COUNTY CHICK BUT THAT IS A FAR AS IT GOES. MAYBE I AM JUST TO PICKY.

Oh yeah O H wrote on Feb 7, 2009 12:17 PM:

Yeh, I am sure the men at the MILL have never seen a naked woman before. Get real, all you have to do is turn on the TV or look at all the magazines in the stores, and they can't show a car or motorcycle, without a naked women hanging all over it. IN fact Playboy is
probably getting to tame for a lot of the men lately.
I just hope Jamie got paid for doing the Playboy article. I am sure she can
use the money if she has 5 children.
Are you sure she has 5 children, you
can't tell by looking, thats for sure.

.... wrote on Feb 7, 2009 11:01 AM:

these women aren't forced into posing nude. they all want to do it. if you think playboy is a bad magazine, why don't you check out hustler, club, and many many other ones... you will think again.

Good 4 U wrote on Feb 7, 2009 10:57 AM:

Congratulations Jamie! In my opinion, I think it's great that you are doing something adventurous with your life. You're a single mom with 5 children who works your a** off everyday, do what you want! The human body when it looks like yours is a beautiful thing. It's only "sexual" if you view it that way. It's a naked body, we all have one. Yours just looks better than most. People are just jealous! Playboy is not an easy magazine to get in. The only thing I disagree with was having it announced in The World paper. The children in this town would have never known you were featured in this magazine, now they all know. I think it could have been left out. Also, I would have left it as low key as possible to help your job, I hope it doesn't jeapordize it! Other than that, I think it's great and I can't wait for your issue to arrive on Feb. 15th! I'm a married female and I'll be purchasing it! There is nothing wrong with a tasteful magazine of beautiful women. To all you haters, if you don't agree with it, don't buy it!

LMAO wrote on Feb 6, 2009 7:11 PM:

You folks would be proud if Ronald Mcdonald was from Coos Bay.

Occupational Hazard wrote on Feb 6, 2009 3:42 PM:

Okay. Creepy. Your spread shows up in Playboy and all your male co-workers ogle over it. She's the only one (I think...) at Roseburg that the guys can say, "I've seen her naked."

Hmmm. . . wrote on Feb 6, 2009 3:05 PM:

Would be nice if more women weren't size 16 and had no pride in their bodies. . .or themselves.

Good for Jaime for having a job, five children and taking care of herself. Most women do it everyday. . .outside of Coos County.

Crescndo wrote on Feb 6, 2009 10:08 AM:

Trashy? Embarrassed? Horrible?

You've got to be kidding, folks. We live in the ugliest, trashiest town(s) on the entire Oregon coast. Now THAT I find embarrasing. Get your dander up over something that matters.

Okay, I checked out the myspace. I've only got one thing to say...TRASHY! How old is this woman anyway? And no, I'm not jealous, I just have class.

Huh wrote on Feb 5, 2009 7:47 PM:

I only find this in horrible taste and an exploitation of women.
Who cares if she is come this area. Quite frankly, I am embarrased to be know as a town where some girl decided to show all.

Kaye wrote on Feb 5, 2009 1:25 PM:

Playboy tasteful and artistic? Keep on lying to yourselves It is what it is: a meat market magazine for adolescent males and old goats with a thin coating of "art" and "literature"

PNUT wrote on Feb 5, 2009 12:14 AM:

I think this is great. I dont know the gal but I hope she had a great time. For all the haters there is an easy solution DONT BUY THE MAGAZINE. Just worry about your own lives. Oh yeah I cant wait until Feb 15th!

Kelly Ann wrote on Feb 4, 2009 11:52 PM:

TRASHY!!!!!!!

Wait. wrote on Feb 4, 2009 10:16 PM:

Playboy "tasteful" and "artistic?" I have nothing against a woman posing nude, but playboy is a magazine for men that is hardly artistic or tasteful. There are many beautiful photos of nude females and paintings of nude females that obviously blow playboy out of the water. No offense to Jamie or anything, do what you want to do but I wouldn't call playboy an art magazine.

LOL wrote on Feb 4, 2009 9:20 PM:

Playboy, with their fake breasts, "landing strips", fake orange tans, bleach blondes and what not are "classy." Keep telling yourselves that.

Trish wrote on Feb 4, 2009 9:14 PM:

Oh boy. Speaking as part of Jamie's family, screw all the haters! Playboy is one of the most tasteful magazines there is. We all love you & support you!

huh wrote on Feb 4, 2009 8:57 PM:

Yes, I can't beleive this story made it into the newspaper... I hope the Playboy gal gave her approval to this news story b/c this is exactly how you get weird-o's and stalkers following you around. To Jaime, congrats, and watch out for the wierd-o's!

DOLLARBILL wrote on Feb 4, 2009 7:29 PM:

JAIME YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TALENTS IN A SAWMILL. YOU COULD BE MAKING THE BIG BUCKS SHOWING YOURSELF FOR A DOLLAR AT ONE ON OUR LOCAL STRIP CLUBS.

open minded wrote on Feb 4, 2009 1:04 PM:

DEAR JUST WONDERING. If I were you, I would be EMBARRASSED by my spelling, and stop speculating on how Jamies family feels about her. We all love her and are proud of the woman that she is, naked or clothed.

Your sister wrote on Feb 4, 2009 10:28 AM:

Jamie you are beautiful and loved, Your family is so proud of you! Playboy is very tasteful and artistic magazine. Those who know choose to judge you in a negative manner have not had the opportunity to make this choice themselves. People don't know the loving, caring, and respectful person you are. Love you!

Coos Bay Chick wrote on Feb 3, 2009 10:11 PM:

I hope she doesn't have any boys cause I'm sure they'll be embarassed when they are growing up and their friends are looking at their naked mama. Come on now, there are better ways at making money than posing for a nasty mens magazine. And no, I'm not jealous. Just observant.

Bar Boy wrote on Feb 3, 2009 8:43 PM:

I'm ashamed the newspaper chose to run an article on this. Didn't you stop to think about what the other kids in school are going to say to her children? Thanks a lot World for making this headline news. Ridiculous. I'd have hoped you were a classier newspaper.

are you starving wrote on Feb 2, 2009 6:49 PM:

Okay I take my comment back after seeing her my space. She is a beautiful gal. Sorry her being a hater.

Totsoc wrote on Feb 2, 2009 6:13 PM:

Her mug didnt look that great to me. The female body is a beautiful creation and a one time life to live. If it buys her a house and a little financial security, good for her. I probably wouldnt have done it, being male or female, but on the other hand, nobody else is paying her bills.

Modesty wrote on Feb 2, 2009 2:14 PM:

I agree with NB Gal. Believe me, I'm not jealous and I've been approched myself to pose for magazines. I have relatives that have been on the cover of decent magazines and even one who became famous. They have all turned Playboy down. No amount of money would ever convince us to go against our morals. However, I don't judge Jamie. I just choose to disagree with her choice.

Huh wrote on Feb 2, 2009 12:49 PM:

How is this filth? And what's wrong with her posing for pictures - she trusted in her sister to take them; so what??? She has an amazing personality, and her kids, I'm sure, want her to fulfill whatever she wants.. just like she wants for them. This is tastfull... maybe you should be more concerned with how your children are acting as a pre-teen..

concerned wrote on Feb 2, 2009 11:31 AM:

congrats Jamie...but I think RFP shouldnt have been mentioned...theres some ppl who dont want to be affiliated with the article and pics, u deserve A good break in life, but theres lots of ppl who work there including my spouse who really didnt want the place of business mentioned...no one at the mill was even considered how it would make them feel...u r a pretty girl..congrats on ur sucess

Local Lady wrote on Feb 2, 2009 8:52 AM:

Way to go Jamie! If I had the right body type you could bet your last dollar I'd want to show it off. You've got something to be proud of. Don't let the nay-sayers get you down! They're just jealous that they don't share the same beauty that you do! Hey, if you've got something worth looking at, by all means show it off! Keep smiling girl!

I don't see the glamor in posing for Playboy, its demeaning to woman.
Come on world newspaper don't you have something better to write about than a Playboy Shoot---Why not write about our service men and women or local people who do volunteer work. Print a newspaper with information that is important not garbage.

are you starving wrote on Jan 30, 2009 5:20 PM:

Okay if I was homeless and unalbe to feed my kids I would pose for playboy. I don' think there is anything wrong with naked photos that are done in a tastefull manner. I personally would be embarrassed to have a write up in the local paper about it. How embarrassing for her family. The girls at my work were talking about it today and busting up that it was even important enough to made headlines. Oh and your sister took naked photos of you for a myspace thats a little weird to me.

TO BOB: Sarah was a good friend of mine in school. She was not a bad girl or "trash". She was intelligent, pretty, and extremly nice to everyone. She was just lucky enough to get a chance at Playboy, just like Jamie has done. Sarah's father was a local doctor and he was afraid that her being in Playboy would hurt his business, but it never did. Sarah's parents was not ashamed, I knew both of them and they were extremly proud of Sarah, they were just afraid it might hurt business when people found out that Sarah was their daughter. It never did hurt anything. The last time I saw Sarah she was still as nice as she ever was.
