Laker wrestlers pin Highline

The Southwestern Oregon Community College wrestling team returned home and dominated Highline 36-13 in a dual meet on Sunday at Prosper Hall.

The Lakers got pins by Brendan Connolly and Tim Hester and major decisions from Zolboo Enkhbayar, Zach Pagnotta and David Laird. Southwestern also won two matches by forfeit.

The win was a solid start to the new year for the Lakers, who struggled against some outstanding competition late in 2008, coach Adam Whitlatch said.

Whitlatch has high hopes for the team as it prepares for the regional tournament, scheduled for Feb. 9 at Coeur D’Alene, Idaho.

The Lakers compete at the Clackamas Open this Saturday and host Clackamas for a season-ending dual on Jan. 23. The Cougars have an outstanding team this year, so that dual will be a good opportunity for the Lakers to build momentum late in the season, Whitlatch said.
