Two small fishing boats sail past the north jetty at the mouth of Coos Bay on Monday, passing by the section that will have some interim repairs done. Jetty repair work was originally scheduled for September, but trouble getting the right kind of rock for the $1.8 million project delayed the contractor, Kerr Construction of Woodburn, in performing the work.

Contractor Kerr Construction, of Woodburn, is set to begin work on a weather-damaged portion of the north jetty at the mouth of Coos Bay as early as Jan. 23, a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesman said today. Repair work was originally scheduled for September, but trouble securing materials delayed the $1.8 million project.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has posted a display at the Coos Head lookout containing maps, photos and drawings which help illustrate the type of work to performed on the jetty.
