This year Crook County School District said it likely will cut least 10 days from the school year, and last spring Sisters budgeted for fewer students after a drop of 125 over two years.

Bend-La Pine is down 30 elementary students where it normally would see an increase of 30.

School districts receive about $5,600 per student from the state based on the number of full-time students on Oct. 1.

Early over-projecting means reduced payments.

Effects of the tight economy also are showing up. As of December, more students were on free and reduced-price lunches, which is how the district measures lower-income enrollment.
