Search begins for missing MP man

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a missing elderly man from Myrtle Point.
Stirling B. Morris wandered off from the Baker Adult Foster Care facility at about 10:54 a.m. in Myrtle Point, according to a press release. His family said the 70-year-old walked outside the care center with his small dog. Within about 10 minutes, Morris and the dog vanished. After family members searched the area, they contacted the Sheriff’s Office.

Morris remained missing this morning. Police entered him into a national computer database as missing and endangered. Morris suffers from Alzheimer’s disease and is described as a 6-foot, 190-pound white man with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans, brown shoes, a blue and gray striped shirt and a plaid flannel jacket.
Coos County Sgt. Pat Downing said the county’s search and rescue team began searching at 9 a.m. Thursday for Morris around the foster care facility and nearby wooded areas.
“They’ve had two dogs out there doing scent searches. They’ve come up negative right now,” Downing said.
One potential lead indicates Morris may have left of his own free will.
“I know that he didn’t like being there,” Downing said.
However, he is unaware of any history of Morris walking away.
Downing said the search team scoured the area around the home and Pleasant Valley Road. There are no plans continue to search in that area today, but investigators are following up on leads.
