Fire fills house with smoke

Tuesday, January 06, 2009 |
A North Bend home suffered some smoke damage on New Year’s Eve after a sweater hanging over a gas fireplace insert caught fire.
At about 8:30 p.m., the North Bend Fire Department received the fire call from a resident at 1060 State St. The caller said everyone was out of the house, which is owned by Jason and Amanda Adams.
Fire Chief Scott Graham said someone hung a sweater over the fireplace and then left the home. When the family members returned, they found the house filled with smoke, the sweater ablaze and called 911, he said. The department responded with three engines, a ladder truck and 25 firefighters, who stayed at the scene for 15 to 20 minutes.
The fire damaged the area of the fireplace and there was light smoke damage throughout the home. No one was hurt.
