VALE (AP) — Oregon’s wine industry is growing, however slightly, as a local vineyard works to wrap it’s wine bottles with the Snake River Valley label.

In an area better known for it’s onions and potatoes, The Vale View Vineyard, on the south-facing slopes of the foothills north of Vale, was planted in 2005. Next year it will have its first harvest.

Two years ago, 12 southwestern Idaho counties and Masher and Baker counties in Oregon were designated as the Snake River Valley American Viticultural Area — a distinction granted for soil, climate and other conditions producers can put on a wine’s label.

It will be a distinction placed on Vale View’s own bottles.
