Blaze destroys Allegany home
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 11:33 AM PST

Fire destroyed a house near Allegany Monday night.

At about 11:44 p.m., the Coos County Sheriff’s Office received a report at 67520 West Fork Millicoma Road, from Pamela Inman, 44, that a neighbor’s house was on fire. There is no structural fire department in that area.

The call was transferred to the Coos Forest Protective Association, which went to the scene with two firefighters and a 200-gallon engine, said Nils Storksen, the unit forester for the CFPA’s Coos Bay office. Two sheriff’s deputies responded, too, he added.

By the time they arrived, the structure had burned, Storksen said. They remained at the scene for about 45 minutes.

“The structure fire did not spread to the brush so there was nothing we could do,” he said. “We are not structural firefighters. If people do not live within a rural fire protection district, they don’t have structural fire protection.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined. Storksen said a fire marshal may check out the fire scene today.

The names of the owners of the home were unavailable at press time.
