BOSTON — Make it 17 in a row for the 17-time NBA champions.
Ray Allen scored 27 points, Kendrick Perkins scored a career-high 25 on 12-for-15 shooting and the Boston Celtics earned their 17th straight victory on Friday night by beating the Chicago Bulls 126-108.
Kevin Garnett scored 17, Paul Pierce had 16 and Rajon Rondo had 15 assists for the Celtics, who could tie the longest winning streak in franchise history with a win on Sunday night against the New York Knicks. The 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers won an NBA-record 33 in a row.
Luol Deng scored 19 with seven rebounds for Chicago, and Andres Nocioni came off the bench after Drew Gooden sprained his right ankle in the first quarter and scored 16.
Boston’s 126 points was its most since scoring 131 in the NBA finals clincher against the Lakers.
Nets 121, Mavericks 97
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Devin Harris dominated the team that traded him, scoring 41 points and helping the Nets ruin Jason Kidd’s return to New Jersey.
Harris added 13 assists in thoroughly outplaying Kidd, who spent 6 1/2 years in New Jersey before the Nets dealt him to Dallas last February for a package highlighted by Harris, who had his second 40-point game during a breakout season.
He was removed for good after his dazzling performance with 2:11 remaining, with fans chanting “Thank you Cuban!” to Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
Vince Carter added 34 points, 10 rebounds and six assists for the Nets, who improved to just 5-8 at home. Yi Jianlian had 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Kidd finished with 17 points and seven assists, but neither he nor his teammates could deal with the quickness of Harris, who recorded his eighth 30-point game, all this season.
Heat 89, Lakers 87
MIAMI — Dwyane Wade got his offensive touch back. More importantly, the Miami Heat brought a level of defense that the Los Angeles Lakers simply hadn’t seen this season.
Wade scored 35 points, including a desperation 3-pointer to close the third quarter, and the Heat held the Lakers to their lowest scoring total this season in knocking off the reigning Western Conference champions 89-87 on Friday night.
Kobe Bryant scored 28 points for the Lakers (21-4), including a spinning jumper from the left side of the lane that drew his team within 88-86 with 41.7 seconds left.
But Wade and Joel Anthony blocked potentially game-tying shots in the lane on the next Lakers’ possession, and after Bryant’s 15-foot fadeaway rimmed out as time expired, the Heat (13-12) could celebrate snapping a three-game slide.
The Lakers’ previous low this season was 93 points, and their 21 turnovers represented their second-highest total of the season.
Rockets 107, Kings 96
HOUSTON — Yao Ming scored 11 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter and Luis Scola had his seventh double-double of the season.
Scola matched a season high with 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, Tracy McGrady scored 18 and Carl Landry added 11 rebounds for the Rockets, who’ve won six straight at home.
John Salmons scored 26 and Brad Miller added 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Kings. Sacramento has lost four of its last six and dropped to 1-2 since Kenny Natt replaced fired coach Reggie Theus on Monday.
Jazz 120, Pistons 114
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Deron Williams scored 29 points to give Utah its seventh straight win over the Pistons.
Mehmet Okur, who finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds, is 8-1 against Detroit since leaving after winning the 2004 NBA title.
Allen Iverson led Detroit with 38 points and Richard Hamilton added 30.
Rasheed Wallace’s 3-pointer made it 96-94 with 1:20 to play, and Rodney Stuckey picked off the inbounds pass and laid it in to tie the game moments later.
Okur and Wallace both missed, giving the Jazz a chance at what they thought would be the final shot of regulation. Williams drove on Stuckey, then stopped and pivoted to hit a short jumper with 2.2 seconds left. Hamilton, though, took the ensuing inbounds pass and hit a baseline jumper to send the game to overtime.
Clippers 117, Pacers 109, 2OT
INDIANAPOLIS — Zach Randolph had 34 points and 16 rebounds to help the Los Angeles Clippers finally best shorthanded Indiana.
Al Thornton scored 25 points, Marcus Camby had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Baron Davis had 18 points and 11 assists for the Clippers, who have won four of five after a 4-17 start.
Jarrett Jack scored a season-high 27 points, T.J. Ford scored 17 and Rasho Nesterovic and Roy Hibbert each scored 16 for the Pacers.
Indiana tipped off missing four of its usual starters. Danny Granger, Troy Murphy and Marquis Daniels were in the hospital with viral infections, and Ford didn’t start because of a sore left groin. Granger, the league’s No. 5 scorer with 24.4 points per game, scored 41 points in a win over Golden State on Wednesday.
Bobcats 112, Grizzlies 83
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Boris Diaw had a season-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, helping the Charlotte Bobcats control the interior and set a franchise record with 66 percent shooting.
Emeka Okafor added 25 points and Gerald Wallace finished with 22 points, connecting on 9 of 11 shots for Charlotte.
Memphis rookie O.J. Mayo scored only 7 points, ending his streak of double-figure games at 25.
Rudy Gay led Memphis with 17 points and Darko Milicic added 11.
Thunder 91, Raptors 83
OKLAHOMA CITY — Kevin Durant scored 24 points, rookie Russell Westbrook added 19 and Oklahoma City snapped an 11-game home losing streak.
Toronto erased a nine-point fourth-quarter deficit before Durant hit a tiebreaking 3-pointer from the left wing with 3:36 to play, and the Thunder’s young core avoided the mistakes down the stretch that have dogged them all season to pick up only their third win.
Jeff Green scored the last of his 13 points on an exclamation-point dunk with 33.8 seconds left that stretched the lead to 87-81 and all but cemented the win.
Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 22 points and 16 rebounds for his 13th double-double, but he didn’t have enough help after six-time All-Star Jermaine O’Neal missed the second half with a sore left shoulder.
Bucks 105, Knicks 81
NEW YORK — Michael Redd scored 21 points to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to their third win this season over the New York Knicks.
Redd scored 12 points in a decisive 25-7 run that spanned the two halves. Richard Jefferson and Luc Mbah a Moute each had 16 points for the Bucks.
Nate Robinson, inserted into the Knicks’ lineup to replace Al Harrington after he got caught in traffic, had 21 points.
Harrington arrived midway through the first quarter and finished with 16 points, and David Lee had 14 points and 14 rebounds.
76ers 109, Wizards 103
WASHINGTON — Even without Elton Brand, the Philadelphia 76ers were able to avoid becoming one of the unfortunate few to lose a game to the Washington Wizards.
Lou Williams, coming off the bench to score a career high for the second straight game, had 26 points Friday night and Thaddeus Young, starting in place of Brand in a smaller 76ers lineup, and Andre Iguodala added 18 points apiece.
Rookie Marreese Speights had a career-high 17 for the 76ers, who improved to 3-0 under interim coach Tony DiLeo.
Antawn Jamison scored 23 points despite playing with a strained left thumb, Caron Butler added 20 points, and Mike James had 16 in his second consecutive start as the Wizards fell to 3-10 under interim coach Ed Tapscott.
Hawks 115, Warriors 99
ATLANTA — Flip Murray scored 14 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to send Golden State to its fifth straight loss.
The Warriors fell to 3-13 on the road, despite holding slim leads at halftime and after three quarters. The Hawks pulled away with a 13-2 run early in the fourth quarter.
Marvin Williams led Atlanta with 22 points. Joe Johnson added 19. |
