Local Recap: Pacific teams get victories at tourney

Pacific’s girls basketball team beat a prep school from Utah in the Cascade Christian Holiday Tournament on Friday.
The Pirates shut out Liahona Prep in the first quarter and won 28-14. Jesse Culley had 12 points to lead the Pirates, who face Butte Falls today.
On Thursday, Pacific lost to Hosanna Christian in the first round of the tournament, 52-12.
Pacific’s boys opened the tournament with a 53-46 win over Hosanna Christian, getting 12 points from Reed Brady and 10 from Peter Swenson.
The Pirates jumped out to a 20-9 lead after the first quarter and led throughout.
On Friday, Liahona Prep beat the Pirates 53-43. Brady had 12 for Pacific.
Pirates top Panthers
Marshfield’s girls beat Gold Beach Friday in a hastily scheduled game. Details were not available.
Red Devils win
Coquille pulled away from host Camas Valley in the fourth quarter for a 62-52 win on Thursday.
Bailey Richardson had 18 points and Kelsey Hill had 16 to lead the Red Devils, who sealed the win by making four of five free throws in the final minute. Allison Cook added 10 points.
Amber Wafer had 15 points and Christina Carter added 12 for the Hornets.
Siuslaw teams fall
Cascade’s boys and girls beat Siuslaw on Thursday in the opening round of the Junction City Tournament.
Cascade’s boys won 47-36 after building a 24-13 halftime lead. Trevor Clark led a balanced Cascade attack with 10 points, while Danny Barnum had 15 and Jacob Mitchell 11 for the Vikings.
Siuslaw’s girls lost 73-16 to the Cougars, one of the state’s top Class 4A squads.
Tarran Stevens had 15 points for the Cougars, while no Siuslaw player scored more than four.
The Vikings didn’t play at the tournament Friday, but might today if the weather allows. |
