SALEM (AP) — The Oregon Department of Transportation said its DMV offices will begin verifying immigration status for driver’s license applications or identification cards on Jan. 1 at its offices around the state.

The DMV will check immigration documents electronically using a federal Department of Homeland Security program called SAVE, for Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements.

The state will not issue driving privileges or ID cards to applicants whose immigration documents cannot be verified with the SAVE system.

But applicants who meet all other Oregon requirements for a driver’s license may qualify for a temporary license to give the applicant time to resolve the problem.

I moved here from colorado last year. I lived in a perfect crime free, drug free nice mountain town. It went from about 2% illegals to 80% illegal mexican immigrants in 5 years. Now there is rape, murder, theft, littering, cocaine, and meth problems everywhere. I was forced to move from the home I was born and lived my entire life in.
I beg of this state not to let the same things happen here also. Be wary, it can happen quick. When you let the third world in, your home then becomes the third world!
Good for the DMV and everyone should be doing more. No I am not a racist, far from one,but don't let it happen here too!!!
Thanx. a concerned citizen and god bless!

No, you are not allowed to vote just because you have an id card or driver's licence you must be a citizen. Residents by law can obtain an id or driving licence however cannot register to vote. I don't see how taking the license to drive will make anything better it will just increase the number of people on the road without driver's license and insurance and guess who is stuck with the bill. Those of us that have insurance.

Okay so drivers licences are off limits,so that will give the police the right to profile.I for one would rather know that at least they studied the book and passed a test and have insurance. As for not issuing ID cards what is the big deal.Is it not a law that everyone over the age of 18 must have some proof of identity.as I see it this is just more money out of the coffiers of the state so they can justify jacking up our DMV fees.

The only true americans here are the NATIVE AMERCANS. I am pretty sure that the indians also felt the white men were illegals. No one can claim to be a true American, because or ancestors came from some where else.

You know, it is really nice to hear that the DMV is finially, at least planning, to do something right for a change. But, I for one, will have to see it to believe it.

It's about time we start verifying this before giving out licenses. If they get licenses, guess what folks, they can register to vote at the same time! So right now we have non-americans voting, and they are potentially a large voting pool. Estimates run as many as 15 million illegals in this country.
