North Bend’s boys swimming team won more than half of the events at the team’s invitational Saturday, though the squad settled for fourth place in the final team standings.
Matt Johnson won both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke for the Bulldogs. North Bend also got victories by James Verger in the 200 freestyle and Kevin Waller in the 500 freestyle, the latter a school record.
Those three swimmers combined with Kyle Katherman for a victory in the 200 freestyle relay and Casey Cook for a win in the 400 freestyle relay.
North Bend’s girls won the team title. Rachel Heaney won the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly and teamed with Kelli Kronsberg, Gabe Deen and Gwen Rogers to win two of the three relays.
North Bend also had numerous other high placers as the team’s depth led to an easy title.
Results from the meet are included in today’s Scoreboard section on Page B3.
