Roseburg overwhelmed the field at the 24th-annual Coast Classic, easily taking the team title in the 33-team tournament on Saturday.

The Indians won by more than 100 points. Roseburg scored 276.5 points, while runner-up Sprague had 167.5. They were followed by Canby (148), Newberg (144.5), Redmond (126.5), McNary (124), Thurston (123), Crook County (104.5), West Salem (102.5), and North Medford (100).

Marshfield was best among the South Coast schools with 46.5 points, good for 25th place.

Roseburg had finalists in eight of the 14 weight classes. The Indians had three champions — Dan Faas (112 pounds), Tyler Lander (130) and Devan Fors (171).

The best finish by a South Coast wrestler was by North Bend’s Nick Cheser, who reached the fifth round of the consolation bracket before being pinned by McNary’s Jordan Lowe. Cheser would have placed with one more victory.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Brookings-Harbor Rotary Invitational

Myrtle Point rallied from a 23-15 halftime deficit to win the championship game at the Brookings-Harbor Rotary Invitational on Saturday.

Sam Sanders had 17 points and Tiffany Meyer and Shirah Stidham added 10 points each for the Bobcats.

Miriam Hernandez had 12 points in the losing effort for the Bruins.

Melinda Torres had 24 points as Bandon beat Illinois Valley 55-28 in the consolation game at the tournament.

Brittney Smith added nine points and Briana Valentine had eight for the Tigers.

Winter Lake Classic

North Valley pulled away from Coquille in the second half, winning the Winter Lake Classic with a 45-37 victory over the Red Devils on Saturday.

Jacquie Nicholson had 16 points and Taylor Vandehey 11 for the Knights.

Nikki Hall and Bailey Richardson had 10 points each to lead the Red Devils.

Pacific Tournament

Powers beat Canyonville Christian 44-33 on Saturday to complete a perfect run at the Pacific Tournament.

Nicole Bittner had 15 points to lead the Cruisers, making all six of her free throws in the fourth quarter, when Powers pulled away by outscoring the Pilots 18-9. Haley Patterson added 14 points, including three 3-pointers.

Host Pacific did not have a Saturday game after Glendale opted not to travel in the winter weather.

Harrisburg Tournament

Kennedy edged Reedsport 28-25 in the consolation game of the Harrisburg Tournament on Saturday.

Jessica Cooper had 10 points and Eden Huebner added eight points for the Braves. Kylee Eder had 12 points to lead Kennedy.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Brookings-Harbor Rotary Invitational

Brookings-Harbor pounded Myrtle Point 91-47 to win the Bruins’ home tournament on Saturday.

Details of the game were not available by press time this morning.

Bandon beat Illinois Valley 58-48 in the consolation game at the Brookings-Harbor Rotary Invitational on Saturday.

The game was tied at halftime, but the Tigers found their offense in the second half to pull away.

“We probably didn’t have as much energy as we did against Brookings (on Friday),” Bandon coach Matt Angove said. “We played offensively a lot better in the second half. Defensively, we really put the clamps down on them in the fourth quarter.”

The Tigers also had by far their best free throw shooting night of the season, hitting 16 of 17 foul shots.

“That saved us,” Angove said.

Pacific Tournament

Canyonville Christian Academy edged Powers 44-39 in the Pacific Tournament on Saturday.

The Cruisers couldn’t come back from a 23-11 halftime deficit.

Newton Allred had 11 points and Cameron Perreault added 10 for the Cruisers.

On Friday, Pacific got its first win of the tournament, beating Canyonville Christian Academy 37-24.

Daylend Wagner had 13 points to lead the Pirates, who did not play a game Saturday because Glendale opted not to travel in the winter weather.

“We held them to five field goals, which I thought was excellent,” said Pacific coach Wayne Everest. “We’ve got to keep that intensity going.”

Winter Lake Classic

Taft held Coquille to just four points in the second half and beat the Red Devils 46-22 in the championship game of the Winter Lake Classic.

The Tigers led 30-18 at halftime and shut the Red Devils out in the third quarter.

Joseph Savala led Coquille with six points, all in the first quarter.

Harrisburg tournament

Reedsport tipped Kennedy 60-57 in the consolation game at the Harrisburg Tournament on Saturday.
