Boxes were ripped open, packaging moved aside and wrenches did their work at the North Bend Fire Department main station Wednesday night as firefighters and other volunteers assembled bikes to be given away for Christmas. About 40 people helped out assembling the 64 bikes that will be delivered by the fire department to North Bend families in need along with some Christmas presents and food boxes. Chief Scott Graham said they have been doing the food boxes for about 15 years, and added the gifts 12 years ago and doing the bikes for five or six years. The bikes of different sizes are provided by Bill Richardson and North Bend Sanitation with the help of special deals through the local K-Mart store.
