Artwalk! brings art and holidays together

The Dec. 11 Artwalk! will feature the Empire area. The Coos Bay-North Bend Artwalk! Association will continue their efforts to raise food for the South Coast Food Share as they expand their food drive to all Artwalk! locations. Those attending the event can bring two cans of food or $2 to donate to South Coast Food Share, a program of Oregon Coast Community Action. Artwalk is a self-guided tour of art, culture and gourmet food in the Bay Area. Visitors can start at any location listed below. Artwalk! runs from 5 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 756-1989.
Empire
Java Jones Coffee House,
757 Newmark Ave., 888-4477 Featuring Raku pottery by Laurie Lee, glass works by Jeannine Huffman and Sandy Bush; and new photography by Lee Wright A number of local artist also will be showcased. Music will be provided from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. by Hal Piper Rebecca Phillips which will overlap with Lynda Cole, 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Empire Flea Market,
1070 Newmark, 260-9500. Funtime Fotos studio gallery will showcase three local photographers works. This month, the gallery’s featured artist is Tiffany Wiley with her “fresh off the bay works.”
Coos Bay
Leaf’s Treehouse,
175 S. Third, 266-3748, continues displaying the work of Southwestern Oregon Community College student Kyla Moen, who works in many different mediums.
Pony Village Mall
The Artist Loft Gallery,
Suite 103, 756-4088 East Wing Mall, will show the work of Loft members.
East Wing Art Wall,
at the east wing entrance, will feature acrylics and abstracts by Clayton Redwood.
Heritage Textile Arts Guild Suite,
157A, is a working studio featuring unique handcrafted fiber art items to be seen. Headles & Treadles will have hand-woven yarns. Visitors are encouraged to join the “knit-in.”
The Rose Palette Art Studio & Gallery,
290-7858, will offer new paintings by students and Priscilla Wyatt.
North Bend
Coos Head Food Store,
1960 Sherman Ave., 756-7264. Margaret Ann has selected some excellent Oregon Organic Wine from the Columbia Gorge and central and south Willamette Valley, for customers to sample and purchase. The cozy sock assortment is full with new hats and the 2009 calendars. “Wrapsacks” will be demonstrated at Artwalk! as an earth-friendly recycled gift bag to use over and over. Holiday gluten-free scones will be the treat of the evening.
Crystal Dolphin Gallery,
1901 Sherman Ave., 756-1989, will have a hot glass artist demonstrating during Artwalk! Joe Johnston is very well known and makes fabulous glass items. In addition, anyone bringing in two or more food items for the local food bank can choose one free natural gem from the Gemtank. There will be a drawing at the end of Artwalk! for a necklace by Rokana.
Easy Lane Frames & Select Art Gallery,
3440 Broadway, North Bend, 756-7638 across from KCBY TV. Patrons will be giving back to their community through a food pounding for South Coast Food Share. Bring in your canned food and receive a free artist note card and a chance to win a $50 gift certificate. The gallery is also featuring 10 perecent off all artwork for the month of December. Gifts include artwork, framing, class tuition and gift certificates. The December show is called “Winter Light” and will feature not only our regular gallery artists but other artists from the community. The gallery features the work of over 48 artists all from the South Coast.
Epiphany & Co.,
1989 Sherman Ave., 756-7900, in the Historic Odd Fellows Building in Downtown North Bend, will be open and exhibiting original works by local artists. The featured artist is Janne LaValle with many new works. Ten percent of sales made during the December Artwalk! will be donated to Community Action Connect.
The Framery,
1774 Union Ave., 756-0797, caddy corner to the North Bend Library, will show a visiting artist.
North Bend Library,
1800 Sherman Ave., will feature the work of Keith Russert, who passed away. His friend, John Moore, will still be displaying Keith’s work. Moore will also be at the Artwalk! reception from 5 to 8 p.m. and will show a DVD of Keith’s last recital. The display will include Keith’s oil paintings, many of which are landscape pieces.
