Democratic committee elects officers

Wednesday, December 03, 2008 |
The Coos County Democratic Central Committee held a meeting on Nov. 18 and elected officers who will serve on the Coos Democrat’s Executive Board for 2009-10.
Officers include: Molly Ford, chairwoman; Maurene Aakre, vice chairwoman; Matt Christensen, governor; Mark McKelvey, secretary; and Katie Ericson, treasurer.
The committee meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month at the Bay Area Labor Hall, on the corner of Ash and Newmark in North Bend. At the Jan. 20 meeting, the committee will be electing delegates to represent the party at the Democratic Party of Oregon and the 4th Congressional District meetings. Six people — three delegates and three alternates will be elected to each committee. Delegates also may serve on the executive board.
Another important goal for the Coos County Democrats during this next biennium will be to fill the vacant precinct committee person positions on the central committee. Presently only about one third of the positions are filled. A precinct committee people officially serves on the local central committee and have voting privileges on issues. They are also considered to be a resource for people living in their precincts who want to get involved and learn more about the local party.
