Air Force honors late artist, Pajares Barrett

A number of United States Air Force artists were honored on Oct. 24, 2008 at a black tie dinner event at Bolling Air Force Base in Washington, D.C. The late Jeannette Pajares Barrett was honored for her 26 years of service as one of the artists. On display was Barrett’s last painting for the Air Force Art Program. Beside the easel, a symbolic black candle glowed in her memory. The painting is of two guards standing at attention, waiting for the arrival of the secretary of the Air Force.
Before her death in 2006, Barrett lived in Greenacres and was a member of the Society of Illustrators. She was a portrait artist and has numerous paintings hanging in the Pentagon and the art collection of the Air Force.
The Coquille Valley Art Center has the largest collection of her art in their permanent collection. Barrett’s husband, Gerald D. Barrett, flew to Washington, D.C., as a guest of the Air Force to attend the event.
