The Coquille Police Department announced Friday afternoon searchers had found the body of a missing Coquille man, who apparently wandered away from home early Thursday morning.

Searchers located the body of 58-year-old Dean L. Morlan at 10:50 a.m. in a wooded area off First and Irving streets, police Chief Mark Dannels said in a press release. Morlan's wife, Cheryl Morlan, called police around 9:30 after awaking Thursday morning and finding him missing from their First Street residence.

"Morlan’s death appears to be weather related based on exposure, specifically, the low temperatures over the last 2 nights," Dannels said.

Morlan was a stage III Alzheimer’s patient.

Cheryl had last seen him around 11 p.m. Wednesday, after going to bed.

Coquille officers and the Coos County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team spent Thursday canvassing the neighborhood and surrounding area, but were unsuccessful in locating him. They went back out Friday around 10 a.m. to resume their search.
