Survey showed LNG has support

Saturday, November 29, 2008 |
This letter is in response to comments made by Jody McCaffree (The World, Nov. 20) regarding the liquefied natural gas survey, even in the face of obvious two-to-one support of the LNG terminal. She still refuses to accept that the vast majority of people do want the terminal to come to our area.
In Coos County, where opposition was strongest at 23 percent, was still well below the 57 percent in favor of the terminal. She stated that people were too busy living their lives to pay attention to the issue, and those who do pay attention don’t understand the whole concept. This is yet another excuse by the squeaky wheel anti-LNG minority to try to convince themselves everyone is on their side and those who are not, haven’t had enough anti-everything ideas pushed on them and therefore are incapable of making an educated decision on their own.
I applaud The World newspaper for printing the results of the survey from a nonbiased third party in a nonbiased way. I am not a member of friends of LNG nor have I visited their Web site. I am a member of the community and largely silent majority who is tired of seeing wonderful opportunities for our community slip through our fingers because of small groups of squeaky wheels that oppose everything new to our area.
I encourage everyone to write The World newspaper and voice your support for LNG. It’s time the silent majority spoke up and took charge of the direction our community’s future goes in.
