Coquille chip truck mishap stalls traffic

Friday, November 28, 2008 |
A chip truck and trailer bottomed out while leaving an industrial complex in Coquille on Tuesday, blocking eastbound lanes of state Highway 42 for about 45 minutes.
According to Sgt. Patrick Smith with the Coquille Police Department, at about 8 a.m., a Bettendorf Trucking chip truck and trailer stopped at the Haley Building, near the intersection of Highway 42 and Highway 42S. It had no trouble entering through the southern driveway, but when it left from site’s northern exit, it high-centered on the highway.
“The driver didn’t realize the slope of the entrance would cause him to high center,” Smith said.
A towing company needed to call out a special rig to remove the marooned vehicle, Smith said. Coquille police and Oregon Department of Transportation personnel directed traffic until about 9 a.m., when the two lanes re-opened.
