PORTLAND(AP) — The city of Portland has formed a task force to evaluate proposals to remodel PGE Park and build a new baseball stadium.
The Portland Beavers baseball team would play at the new stadium. The soccer team would play at PGE Park — if Major League Soccer picks Portland to become the hometown for one of two expansion teams and funding is available to upgrade the park.
The task force will look at financing for both projects as well as potential sites for the Beavers baseball stadium. The city council will have the final say.
Merritt Paulson, who owns the Portland Timbers soccer team and the Beavers, has proposed to use $85 million in city-backed bonds for the projects.
He has offered to pay $40 million to buy a Major League Soccer team. |
