If we were fired because of "complaints" there would be no officers on the road. We are routinely accused of rape, brutality, abuse, theft, drug use, etc... by the people who are ACTUALLY doing those things and are not happy with the officer bringing them to justice.
I've heard many times as a police officer that if you NEVER get a complaint, you're not doing your job.

Everyone has some "bad cop" story to tell. You don't get your car towed because of a "little bit" of marijuana. And when they tow, it is towed to the closest city not to their preference or home town. Most vehicles are towed because the driver is impaired, uninsured, or unlicensed. And do you want to pay for the polygrapher to come and ask me if I stole a pencil every 6 months? Do you have any idea what you are asking for? Or are you one of those who thinks that you don't have to live up to any standard because you are not a public employee? I am saying that EVERYONE should have to live up to a higher standard.

Ulmer worked for the city of Coquille. He made a very bad mistake. We all have choices in our lives, sometimes we can make the wrong choice. Have you ever speed down the street? If you say never, I think you had better watch your speed a little closer. No one is perfect, all of us.

It may seem that you have no perception of what is going on except for your idea of what law enforcement is. Even if you have failed to follow any of this you will see that the Police Chief is handling this matter the way it should be handled. No exceptions to the rules this is the way of life. Mr. Ulmer is going to be treated with the same factors as anyone else facing the court system. Then you take this opportunity to blame the police department for not finding a missing person. I wont even comment on your response as your ignorance is obvious.

Walk a mile in their shoes, Yes what the officer allegedly did is wrong, and hurts pubblic trust but you bloggers never have anything nice to say! I wish the World would do away with the comment section all together, everytim I read them I want to cry at the uneducated crap that I read

I work for the Coos County Sheriff's Office. I went through a VERY extensive background check before I was hired which included a complete reference check, criminal background check (no I don't have one), credit check, and a walk through of my home. Every past employer was contacted. I took tests, and was interviewed by a panel of at least 6 people. I don't know what Coquille does, but no matter what background check an employer does, someone can decide to be stupid at some point. Happens in every department in the country. Now what I would like to see is EVERY criminal get the same punishment as Mr. Ulmer. Lose their job, lose any chance at going to work in a similar job, and pay the fines and fees. A lot of mill workers, loggers, retail clerks etc do commit criminal acts and let me tell you it is buried in fine print on a back page somewhere. Why can't we hold EVERYONE to that proverbial higher standard? Wouldn't the world be a better place?

Even more unfortunate, is the damage done to the reputation of CPD and law enforcement in general. Thankfully, Chief Daniels is doing well by all accounts and it seems he and the DA have handled this incident well to date.

Also, the Chief and the DA have done a great job with how they have handled this and especially for being blindsided by it all. You guys always have to find something to complain about and I'm sure if you lived under surveillance 24/7, your lives wouldn't be so perfect either. Get a Life!

Coquille has had enough problems the last several years. I hope justice will be done, what about the tickets this Officer has given to people.Hmmmm
