NORTH BEND —  Police are searching for tips leading to the arrest of some busy taggers who have sprayed graffiti on more than a dozen businesses and city property.

Capt. Ron Akers at the North Bend Police Department said 14 buildings had been tagged Tuesday and Wednesday, with more over the weekend.

“They believe it’s one or two individuals doing it,” he said.

He added that he had not seen images of the graffiti and could not describe their similarities or differences.

“We’re hoping to be able, through the course of this investigation, to find out who is responsible and send all the cases to the DA’s office to be charged,” he said.

By putting the cases together, the fines and penalties will likely be higher for a convicted culprit, Akers said. Criminal mischief becomes a felony when someone has done $750 or more in damage.

“I’m hoping it’s a bigger deterrent,” Akers said.

The captain said it’s important for victims to report graffiti on their property. The unwanted artwork should also be covered as soon as possible to prevent further criminal mischief.

Officers also are seeking help from the community.

“We’re looking for suspects at this time so we appreciate any information the public  can give us,” he said.
