IRVINE, Calif. — Junior guard Tajuan Porter scored 23 points to lead Oregon past UC Irvine, 84-77, at the Bren Events Center Friday night.

Porter was 4 of 7 from the field, including 3 of 5 on 3s, and hit all 12 of his free-throw attempts.

UC Irvine senior forward Kevin Bland led all scorers with a career-high 26 points, hitting 12 of 14 from the field.

Oregon led 39-34 at halftime and both teams shot 62.5 percent from the field in the second half.

The Anteaters made a run, closing to within 72-66 on a layup by Bland with 1:44 remaining. But Porter hit 10 of 10 free throws in the final 53 seconds to seal the victory.

Oregon shot 50.9 percent from the floor for the game and UCI shot 50.8 percent from the field.

No. 4 UCLA 77, Southern Illinois 60

NEW YORK — Alfred Aboya scored 22 points and Darren Collison had 17, helping the Bruins rebound from a disheartening loss to beat Southern Illinois in the consolation game of the 2K Sports Classic.

The Bruins (3-1) struggled in a semifinal loss to Michigan, turning the ball over 17 times and showing very little patience against the Wolverines’ zone defense.

They also had problems with Southern Illinois , a team known for its gritty defense, before a 20-2 run covering more than 6 minutes late in the game made it much more comfortable.

Freshman guard Kevin Dillard scored 14 for the Salukis (2-2).

No. 19 USC 73, Chattanooga 46

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Taj Gibson scored 17 points to lead Southern Cal over Chattanooga in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Gibson also grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots for the Trojans (3-1), who played a strong second half to claim the win.

Nicchaeus Doaks led the Mocs (0-4) with 14 points, 15 rebounds and three assists.

Portland 77, Yale 58

PORTLAND — Junior guard Nik Raivio had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Portland to a 77-58 victory over Yale on Friday.

The Pilots (2-1) never trailed, although the Bulldogs (0-3) managed two early ties.

The Pilots hit seven of their first nine shots. Portland eventually opened a 29-12 lead.

Raivio had a big first half with 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. That helped the Pilots post a 37-25 halftime lead.

Alex Zampier led the Bulldogs with 15 points. Ross Morin, with 10 points, was Yale’s only other player in double figures.
