Coos Bay foundation sends out grants for school projects

The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation has awarded grants to six programs to provide students with expanded opportunities and unique educational experiences.
n Sunset Middle School: $110 for talent show trophies and ribbons.
n Bunker Hill Elementary and Millicoma Intermediate School: $400 for an English Language learners project connecting family histories, cultures and art.
n Blossom Gulch Elementary: $500 for an “Artist in Residence” program for third graders.
n Harding Learning Center: $750 for materials to help students in the Interim Program of Academic and Social Skills to improve the Blossom Gulch trail.
n Madison Elementary: $958 for a fourth grade field trip to Salem.
n Blossom Gulch Elementary: $982 for T-shirts and sweatshirts for the student running program.
“There were so many great programs to fund this year,” explained Nancy Tedder, foundation president. “We’re a new foundation in the Coos Bay community, and we’re hoping to grow in the coming years so we can provide funding for more great opportunities for kids to learn.”
The Coos Bay Schools Community Foundation was formed during 2007 to promote programs for the arts, academics, activities, and athletics for the benefit of the students of the Coos Bay School District by raising funds through community partnerships. The foundation is a community-based, not-for-profit organization separate from the Coos Bay School District. People interested in donating to the foundation can contact their local school or the Coos Bay School District’s office.
