Thursday, November 20, 2008 |
Myrtle Point firefighters battled a blaze in a vacant house this morning near the Spruce Street bridge.
Firefighter Florencio Torres said about 10 firefighters fought the fire for about six hours early this morning. The house, which was located on the north side of the bridge was completely destroyed in the blaze. No further information about the fire or its cause was available at press time.
Power outages leave homes in the dark
Several power outages were reported in the area this morning. About 130 Pacific Power customers in Powers were left in the dark starting at about 5:30 a.m. Most customers were back online by 7:50, but a Pacific Power spokeswoman said 30 remained without power at 8:45. She said a tree fell into the line and caused the outage. A smaller outage, affecting less than 20 customers, in Myrtle Point was reported shortly after houses went dark in Powers. A crew was working on restoring Power at 8:45 this morning.
Coos-Curry Electric reported outages in the Blue Ridge Road and Daniels Creek area, but not further information was available at press time.
