Business helps police nab suspect in boat theft

Thursday, November 20, 2008 |
Coos Bay police arrested a Hebo man Wednesday, after he attempted to sell a boat that had been reported stolen to a boat dealership.
At 2:20 p.m., Coos Bay Marine employees contacted police, reporting that a man had dropped-off a boat with intentions of selling it, a Coos Bay press release said. The man had left the dealership, but told the employees that he was planning to return.
The business called the Oregon Marine Board with the boat’s registration information, and the Marine Board indicated the boat had been reported as stolen by a Portland resident on Oct. 31. Employees then called police with a description of the man and his vehicle.
Less than an hour later, officers stopped the vehicle at Morrison Street and Maryland Avenue in Coos Bay. They arrested driver Bryan Zivanovic, 23, without incident. Police charged him with unauthorized use of a vehicle and to him to the Coos County jail where, he was released on his own recognizance to appear in Coos County Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. on Friday
