Second state rural Congress will focus on transportation
Thursday, November 20, 2008 10:21 AM PST

Coos County will host the second Oregon Rural Congress from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at The Mill Casino-Hotel in North Bend.

The Oregon Rural Congress is open to the public and anyone with concerns about rural Oregon issues.

The first Oregon Rural Congress was held in August 2008 at Cascade Locks. Those who attended found common ground and began crafting a new way for the concerns of rural Oregonians to be better perceived and served, a press release said. The four issues discussed included natural resources, economic development, health care and telecommunications.

Participants in the Oregon Rural Congress will create a report for legislative delivery and encourage input from all rural Oregonians.

The second congress will focus on transportation and finance, leaving ample time at the end of the day for additional input.

For registration information, call Bobbi Brooks in the Coos County commissioners’ office at 396-3121, ext. 225.
