The Oregon Department of Transportation hosted a dedication ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the completion of the new Elk Creek Bridge.
Two Elkton High School students designed artwork for four pylons on the bridge, which is the last of five being replaced along state Highway 38 between Elkton and Drain.
The pylons feature carvings of steelhead, elk, osprey and monarch butterflies. Victory Builders of Glendale will carve the final pylon, having completed the work on the other three earlier in the week.
Senior Richard Sanchez designed pylons to resemble a Douglas fir log to form the pylon bases. To signify the Beaver State, he modeled the top of the pylons after beaver-chewed logs, pointed with a texture made up of rough teeth marks and scratches, according to ODOT.
Contractors will use shotcrete to form the pylons, and then add color through a staining process. |
