The Coos County District Attorney’s Office may need a couple of months before it can determine whether last week’s fatal shooting in Coquille was an accident, suicide or murder.

District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said he is awaiting lab test results on the Patricia A. Shaw case. That could take between two to eight weeks to complete.

They are the last piece of evidence needed. The Coquille police and the Coos County Major Crime Team have completed interviews and an autopsy.

“The autopsy told us what we already knew, that she died of a gun shot wound to the head,” Frasier said.

Shaw was shot with a handgun. Police have a weapon in their possession they think was used in the shooting, though Frasier said ballistics tests are needed for confirmation.

Coquille police found Shaw, 45, at about 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, at 740 N. Folsom St. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Shaw’s 10-year-old son was taken into protective custody, and the boy’s father is in Coquille and plans to take him back to Texas. Shaw moved to Coquille from Texas this past summer.

Have heard from my family as to what we are allowed to know......is there anything new in the case.....i cannot divulge what i already know so as not to infect the case.....i am just curious if anyone there in Coquille has heard anything new.....and never forget, the evidence DOES NOT LIE!!!!!!

lil bro,
While I respect what you say and understand your concern, My point is, my house is very insulated, t.v. or radio is usually on, live on busy intersection, will admit that I am a woman who hasn't heard enough gun shots to be able to tell it's definitly a shot even if I do hear something, can't tell where it's coming from, so what good would it do for me to call police, say I think I heard a shot but have no idea where it came from? How much time would I be taking up of the police for them to go door to door all around my neighborhood making sure nobody was shot.I'm not trying to be flippent here, just honest.

For "Just Thinking": While I admire your open honestness; it seriously concerns me, in this day where I live. I hear ANYTHING that resembles a gunshot and I call the POLICE. How is it that people cannot hear a gunshot? A car backfire sounds somewhat the same. "BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY. And now I am sorry that people are not paying attention to their environment and trying to clean it up. You know whom you are. Can you live with it? Patti didn't.......she deserves better......Doesnt YOUR Daughte

The tears have not dried the loss is still very new the family & friends still mourn for their loss questions will be answered soon but the hurt will be with us a long time
Pattie was not just another pretty face not just a sister or not just a mother but a friend to all. She had friends and loved ones with her if only in her heart when we lost her she made the world a better place for many that came into her life
I can see her smiling face & she says you know what i'm talking about with a little nod of the head.
Pattie we love you and will miss you

"Family friend"
How many times have you heard a noise that could have been a shot have you called police.Don't be so quick to judge what you don't know.Don't you think the neighbors feel enough guilt that they didn't hear/see anything that could help.Noises happen daily that could sound like gunshot. It's not like several shots were fired where someone could have time to definitly know gunshots were fired. One gunshot happens so quickly there would be no way of knowing forsure if what you heard was a definate gunshotand where it came from.Tragic enough this happened without people throwing stones..

To family friend... I'm sure the neighbors aren't traumatized enough having this happen right next to them, but lets lay some guilt on them for not hearing a gunshot. It doesn't surprise me one bit that no one heard it, unless you expect them to have bionic hearing. Yes, gunshots are loud when out in the open or standing right next to it... but muffled through several houses walls, furniture, etc., then add in tv/stereo noise, etc., and it doesn't take much to drown it out.

To LIL BRO -

I am so very sorry for your loss. It sounds like you certainly have the right attitude. Patience is something I lack in! But you are right - the D.A. does need time to do his job corrctly. From the bottom of my heart I hope you get answers soon. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for even thinking about Leah in your time for mourning Patricia. God Bless you and best wishes to you and your family.

I am amazed at the ability of people to speculate and run rampant with rumors.....i have been watching this closely since Patricia WAS my older sister......i appreciate the kinds words from you all.....As for the Freeman case....I only hope you get closier, as all open cases should......it seems as if some are happy with your DA, and some not so much.....Politics is that.......Give the man a chance to do his job......ALL I ASK IS THAT HE ASKS HIMSELF THE SAME QUESTIONS WE ALL ARE.....evidence will lead to the truth...

I agree with you What A Shame. Chief Dannels is awesome. He is definitaly an asset to Coquille. Thank you Chief Dannels!

FamilyFriend wrote on Nov 18, 2008 5:16 PM:

I'm following the articles printed, thank you Mr. Rich. What I can't understand is one article you wrote Ms. Shaw was by herself when found, in a house she didn't live in.

Now, if it were suicide or an accidental shooting, why would anyone in the house at the time of the shooting leave? Before police arrived?

I'm hundreds of miles away but that little nugget is enough to cause my suspicions lean towards a murder.

I pray her son is released to his loving family soon, Jesus welcomes Patty into His loving embrace, and pray a curse upon the persons who were present when she was shot and left her die alone, may they live forever with their treachery and cowardice. And if she was murdered, I pray justice will be as swift as all the witnesses were to leave.

And what's up with none of the neighbors hearing anything?! Neighbors, you will be held accountable for what you didn't do (and hear).

Everyone in Coquille thank Chief Dannels for handling this case in a extremly professional way. I am sure that this man knows his job very well and will NOT let his personnel feelings take over the case like our , so called, ex police chief did on the Lilly muder and the Leah Freeman case. THANK YOU CHIEF DANNELS
