Shooting case still open

The Coos County District Attorney’s Office may need a couple of months before it can determine whether last week’s fatal shooting in Coquille was an accident, suicide or murder.
District Attorney R. Paul Frasier said he is awaiting lab test results on the Patricia A. Shaw case. That could take between two to eight weeks to complete.
They are the last piece of evidence needed. The Coquille police and the Coos County Major Crime Team have completed interviews and an autopsy.
“The autopsy told us what we already knew, that she died of a gun shot wound to the head,” Frasier said.
Shaw was shot with a handgun. Police have a weapon in their possession they think was used in the shooting, though Frasier said ballistics tests are needed for confirmation.
Coquille police found Shaw, 45, at about 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, at 740 N. Folsom St. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Shaw’s 10-year-old son was taken into protective custody, and the boy’s father is in Coquille and plans to take him back to Texas. Shaw moved to Coquille from Texas this past summer. |
