Lunchtime talks
Janice Mathers of Bend will be the guest speaker at the Thursday, Dec. 4, “Let’s Do Lunch.”
The monthly luncheon is hosted by the Christian Women’s Club — Coos Bay/North Bend Connection. It starts at 11:15 a.m and will run to 1 p.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 1313 N. Bayshore Drive, Coos Bay.
The Coquille Valley Handbell Choir will perform Christmas music during the lunch.
Reservation are required by Dec. 1. For more information, call Ruth at 759-3202.
Light of remembrance
Compassionate Friends will participate in a worldwide candle-lighting event on Sunday, Dec. 14.
The group is taking part in the annual Compassionate Worldwide Candle to honor the memory of all children who have died. The local candle-lighting event is part of service slated to begin at 6 p.m., South Coast Hospice, 1620 Thompson Road. Candles will be lit at 7 p.m.
“As they (the candles) burn down in one time zone, they are lit in the next, creating a 24-hour wave of light,” a press release said.
The event is a potluck dessert.
