Families and children receiving early intervention, special education and other individualized services are invited to a meeting Wednesday to be hosted by the South Coast Education Service District.

The Oregon Autism Project, family survey questions and future planning for the advisory group will be on the agenda for discussion.  Books will be available for loan on topics related to parenting and special needs.

The meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the ESD building, 1350 Teakwood Ave., in Coos Bay.

Parents, grandparents and guardians are encouraged to share helpful tips and resources with other parents whose children may have been recently diagnosed or are newcomers to the community.

Studies show that families may benefit from parent-to-parent support. Open communication between parents and school districts can increase family involvement and reduce frustration when problems occur.

Pizza will be provided, and children are welcome.

For more information or to RSVP, those interested can call Sharon Smith, at 269-1611, or toll-free at (866) 813-7961.

Parents who are unable to attend the meeting can call ESD Superintendent George Woodruff at 266-3947 or toll-free at (866) 813-7961 to discuss comments or concerns.
