Coquille police haven’t made any arrests following the death of a Coquille woman Monday, but the incident is being treated as a homicide.

An autopsy of the victim, Patricia Ann Shaw, 45, is scheduled today, said Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier in a press release.

“At this point we cannot discuss specific facts of this case,” Frasier said. “However, Ms. Shaw’s death occurred under circumstances that require additional and detailed investigation. Until proven otherwise, we are treating the death as a homicide.”

Coquille police found Shaw suffering from gun shot wounds shortly after responding to reports of a shooting Monday night at 740 N. Folsom St. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.

“She was by herself when we arrived,” said Coquille police Chief Mark Dannels.

Shaw lived a block away from the house where the shooting occurred, Dannels said, and was supposedly visiting a friend Monday night.

Shaw apparently was unemployed, Dannels said. She moved to the town in July from Texas. Shaw was living with her 10-year-old son, who was taken into protective custody Monday, Dannels said. She also had a boyfriend, he said. All her other family lives outside the state.

The Coos County Major Crime Team is assisting Coquille with the investigation.

Frasier said there aren’t any suspects because investigators haven’t definitively determined if Shaw’s death was a homicide.

“In these cases, you plan for the worst and hope it is something else,” he said. “It could be a suicide, an accident or a murder.”

Debbie took care of my daughter while I was in class.Debbie was very excited about her new baby and her daughter no matter what people say she was a great person and Mom, thats what I remember her by if people want to remember other people by mistakes and problems they had, you better think of what people going to think of you cause everyone has skeletons in thier closet. just like one of mine will be I,am one of the ones who got pregnant at 16.

I know at this time, many of you will be missing your loved ones who were taken from you so tragically. Please take this Holiday and try to remember the beautiful times you experienced with them. All the wonderful memories! It's O.K to take a time out from the crulty of the world and rejoice in the love of good. Your loved one would want that for you! May God bless you and your families at this special time of year. Some of us blame God for the evil that exists amoung us. It's not his fault. He allows each and every one of us the freedom of choice. It's just sad that the that innocents' have to suffer because of it.

You say trust the DA? I frankly don't believe that I can! He is going to have to earn my trust. I don't know about anyone elses faith in most our law enforcment officials, but how well has their procedures worked so far when it comes to solving crimes of this magnitude? I'm speaking about this most recent possible homicide of Patricia Ann Shaw. I don't have a lot of faith in our PD's capabilities. I hope for the sake of Patricia's loved ones, that I am proven wrong this time.

In Response To It Doesnt Matter Who I Am wrote on Dec 18, 2008 12:27 PM:

Hi here. I was thrilled to here your comments about Debbie Lilly. You are right about there not being enough focus on her brutal death, instead the focus being on her mistakes. This should have been no matter. She did not deserve what she got from an angry man. It seems the only time people remember her is when a similar thing happens to someone else. What a pitty! Why was the focus only on the husband and Debbie's mistakes? While the word of the other(I refuse to call him a gentleman), was taken as truth. I'm sure the prosecuter just wanted to win and close the case which was brought to trial 9 years after the fact with circumstancial evidence only. The comment made "This is only the 2nd case I have ever lost". What does this tell you!

Frustrated wrote on Dec 17, 2008 12:41 PM:

It seems I must be saying something wrong. My other couple of comments were not posted. I is important to be keeping all these victims names, such as Debbie Lilly out there no matter how far back in the past the crime took place. None of them should be left unsolved. It looks as though Patricia Ann Shaw may be added to the above list. I would like to express my sympathy to her loved ones. May God bless you and may He provide comfort to you.

Frustrated wrote on Dec 17, 2008 11:31 AM:

The list keeps getting longer? yes it does. Now we must add Patricia Ann Shaw?
May God bless her family & friends. I am sure happy to see Debbie Lilly's name mentioned again. Her unsolved murder should not be swept under the rug just because there was a trial. That trial didn't solve a thing. I belive the DA just wanted the case to be closed. Why wasn't there a second suspect in that case? She did have a boyfriend in which she had a baby with while married to her husband. That shows deceitfullness in character. Don't ya think? This is another case that should be revisited by other sources.

Frustrated wrote on Dec 17, 2008 10:43 AM:

Jeremy Bright, Leah Freeman, Debbie Lilly. The list keeps getting longer. I agree that these unsolved murders here should be viewed by other sources. A fresh set of eyes along with a clear conscience; someone( not emotionally involved)with the investigation or the victims I'm sure would be a great blessing in helping solve these cases.

May God Bless Patricia Ann Shaw and her family. I didn't know Patricia but my heart goes out to her family and friends."Only if", that is a statement that I wish gave people a second chance but the "I wish" statement doesn't do it either."I hope" is a good one. Keep your hope alive and someday you will get your answers.Another murder in Coquille? "I hope" the investigation was handled more professionally than the Leah Freeman and the Debbbie Lily cases were.I read a comment about Debbie Lily. It bothered me that someone had to ask who she was.I was glad, though the question was asked because her name needs to be remembered along with the fact that she is one of the 4 victims of unsolved murders here. Jeremy Bright, Leah Freeman,Debbie Lily & now Patricia Shaw. These people did not deserve to die. I hope I am not going to be added to that list.It seems to keep growing and probably will continue to do so as long as people seem to be getting away.

It's debbie lillie and if you google her you will see she was murdered in her own home, her husband was tried and found not guilty, and no one has ever been convicted.

Debbie Lilly a young mother of two was killed in early 1994 in her home in Coquille. Her children were in the house at the time. There was huge scandel about serious mistakes Debbie made, and seemed the media jumped all over that, people gossiping and judging her, instead of focusing on her murderer being found. Her husband was tried few years ago but was found not guilty. So her murder goes unsolved. Her two children under 3 at the time, not only grew up without their mother, now are old enough to possibly read all the trash in the media, not only were these two babies robbed of a mother, but may never know justice for her dealth either.

Even though it did go off the subject, as a member of Debbie Lillies family, I was glad to see that at least one person remembers that she also was murdered and justice never carried out.I think the media made such a ordeal of her mistakes and that tended to make people think more along the lines of how horrible her mistakes were, instead of how horrible her death was. No matter what mistakes she made, nobody deserved to die that way. Also And I don't mean to take anything away from all the publicity on Leah's dealth, I believe we should never forget but lets remember all unsolved murder victims in our area.Pray for justice for all of them.

think about it. wrote on Nov 18, 2008 7:49 PM:

Suspicious,
There is a very good reason why, as you put it," We are obviously not being told everything there is to know, which is typical of a homicide case."So far, this is an investigation into a dealth, not a homiside. And until it goes to trial as a murder, they can't and shouldn't give out all the info. Which could give the possible murderer time to come up with viable story, ect. Besides the fact as was said by someone else, if person's of interest name was released, there could be even more violence..

This is yet again another tragedy. Has people forgotten Debbie Lillie?. Ok, it went to trial and yet???, not to mention Leah...may they find the person, persons involved and peace to Cory, family and friends.
I am thankful the son of Patricia is with family and for the mother to give support to the Leah freeman cause, bless you in your own suffering.
We do not know what happened and I truly believe that we indeed need to trust our police and District Attorney to work this out. We need more community action going on here.
HOW MUCH DO YOU AND YOUR NEIGHBORS DO ABOUT THE DRUGS,ABUSE,RUNAWAYS...??? Step up to the plate.
We all may not be perfect, but we live here.
Blessings and healing to the family of Patricia.
P.S. GOD KNOWS

Has anyone stopped to think that since she was alone at neighbors house, neighbor ran for help.I don't know if she was murdered or if she killed herself, I don't think people carry on about another murderer running loose is doing any good, except to get people riled up and possibly cause another death to happen when neighbors name gets out and people decide to take matters into their own hands. Do any of us know how we would respond if someone shot themself right in front of us, I'm not saying she committed suicide, wasn't there, neither were you.Leave it to the police to find out what happened before you start a city wide panic. I'm sorry for all involved, both the victims family and the neighbors as well.I do think the paper should be careful when wording articles such as in one article states GUN SHOT, while another says GUN SHOTS.

Suspicious wrote on Nov 15, 2008 11:25 AM:

I am really sorry to hear about another victim here in Coos County. I do not believe this shooting was a suicide or accident, and here is why. Who called the police? If it was the paramedics that called the police, then who called the paramedics? If it was Patricia that called, presumably 911, then there must be a record of that call. The Nov. 12 article says there is no record of the shooting in the Coos Bay PD's log. How likely is it that anyone would go to someone eles house alone and discharge a firearm? Where was the owner of the house where the shooting took place? We are obviously not being told everything there is to know, which is typical of a homicide case.

What else could it be. She was found in the house alone, a block from her own home dead. She did have firearms of her own why go to a neighbors house? Where is the note that is normally found? Just because you don't want to believe that it was murder don't make it so. It is a possibility that she did kill herself and little green men also live on the moon.

Is it a CONCLUSION that she was in fact murdered? I haven't read that anywhere, just that it is being investigated as a possible homicide. It could of been self inflicted. In any case, the boy is suffering and needs our support and prayer.

I believe you made the comment that it would be nice to know if there was a murderer loose in this county which is where the Leah Freeman example was brought up because until they catch her killer there will be one loose in this county..so now it looks like there are 2..unless it was by the same person. However the fact is both were tragedies and to the family of Patty I am truly sorry for your loss and hope the murderer is caught quickly.

DD wrote on Nov 14, 2008 1:20 AM:

what makes you people think that Freeman's killer is still around?
for all we know, that person is long gone

Samantha wrote on Nov 13, 2008 6:18 PM:

Coquille Resident...Quit bringing up the past... It's not the past to Leah's mother, it was never solved, so she can't move on yet. You need to keep your negativity to yourself or just don't come on here.
I believe the reason Leah's killer was not caught is due to the fact everyone in coos county gossip's way to much and if you all would just read the articles and give your sympothy instead of coming up with lies to what actually happened maybe coos county PD could do their job and catch the killers.
To: Leah's mom I know this is bringing back heartache for you but one day justice will be served so Leah can RIP!!! But please pray for this victim's 10 year old son, I feel so bad for him...

Hey, Coquille, you now have a chance to make a difference for once.

Please, do your jobs this time, and find this murderer. Maybe you could take some of your cops off of the street that are illegally pulling drivers over... nah, that's crazy. Wouldn't want to take away from your revenue stream, when you could solve a homicide.
