Investigators treating Coquille death as a possible homicide

Coquille police haven’t made any arrests following the death of a Coquille woman Monday, but the incident is being treated as a homicide.
An autopsy of the victim, Patricia Ann Shaw, 45, is scheduled today, said Coos County District Attorney R. Paul Frasier in a press release.
“At this point we cannot discuss specific facts of this case,” Frasier said. “However, Ms. Shaw’s death occurred under circumstances that require additional and detailed investigation. Until proven otherwise, we are treating the death as a homicide.”
Coquille police found Shaw suffering from gun shot wounds shortly after responding to reports of a shooting Monday night at 740 N. Folsom St. Medics pronounced her dead at the scene.
“She was by herself when we arrived,” said Coquille police Chief Mark Dannels.
Shaw lived a block away from the house where the shooting occurred, Dannels said, and was supposedly visiting a friend Monday night.
Shaw apparently was unemployed, Dannels said. She moved to the town in July from Texas. Shaw was living with her 10-year-old son, who was taken into protective custody Monday, Dannels said. She also had a boyfriend, he said. All her other family lives outside the state.
The Coos County Major Crime Team is assisting Coquille with the investigation.
Frasier said there aren’t any suspects because investigators haven’t definitively determined if Shaw’s death was a homicide.
“In these cases, you plan for the worst and hope it is something else,” he said. “It could be a suicide, an accident or a murder.” |
