Trust me (as a traffic engineer), though I feel there is some negligence on the part of the Public Works department in Coos Bay, the idea that all lights were green at one time is far fetched.
I suggest someone have proof of this, if they're going to make that accusation.
Remember, a "yellow" light is not the same as a green light. Some intersections have no delay between the time one light goes green and another light turns red. I've driven through that intersection plenty of times in my life, and this fantasy scenario doesn't fly.
Either someone was not paying attention, or someone tried to "beat" the light.

I am not casting blame on either driver. I do hope the two boys are doing better and as a victim of many close calls (I drive with my headlights on all the time now)I can say that most of the close calls weren't by teenagers or young people. My own mother was hit by a car that ran a red light in that same intersection.

I have 2 comments I wanted to share.
First, as bus drivers, we are trained to observe all intersections before we enter and we are to enter the intersection slowly. The bus driver should have seen the vehicle coming and if they were going slowly, they would have had time to stop. If for some reason, the accident still was unavoidable, the damage wouldn't have been so severe.
Second, just because we are driving a big yellow bus, doesn't mean people can see us. Every time there has been an accident up here in Portland, the comment of the other vehicle's driver was "I just didn't see the bus". It does happen.
I am not tring to pass blame on either driver, I am just adding some info for others.
I sure hope the people from the truck will be ok. I hope them speedy recoveries.
