Wednesday, November 12, 2008 10:35 AM PST

The North Bend Police Department is looking for a 61-year-old man who has been missing for more than two weeks.

Police believe he may be somewhere on Coos Bay’s North Spit.

According to Sgt. Mike Kuehn, family members reported Edward Stutesman, of North Bend, missing on Oct. 30, having last seen him four days earlier. He hadn’t told them where he was going, Kuehn said.

Kuehn said North Bend contacted other law enforcement agencies, but not local media until Tuesday. He said there weren’t any leads until a U.S. Bureau of Land Management ranger found Stutesman’s 2003 Toyota on Monday, parked at the end of Transpacific Highway. Kuehn said Stutesman was known to go hiking in the area.

The Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Coos County Mounted Posse, Coos County Search and Rescue, North Bend police and the U.S. Coast Guard searched the area from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday until dark, but couldn’t find Stutesman.

Stutesman is 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a plain red sweatshirt. He has brown hair, brown eyes and wears glasses.

Anyone with information regarding Stutesman should call the North Bend Police Department at 756-3161.
