Obama slurs result in student discipline

SALEM (AP) — Several students have been discplined at West Salem High School for racially disparaging remarks involving President-elect Obama.
Principal Ed John said he addressed the student body after the incidents to say such remarks will not be tolerated. He also sent out a phone message to parents over the weekend.
One student was suspended for five days after calling another student a racial slur.
The school disciplined another student who used a racial epithet to describe Obama after seeing other students celebrating the election.
Two other students were disciplined after one hit the other when she heard he had used a racially derogatory term.
John said student leaders will make posters promoting respect and a committee will work to bring a black history exhibit to the school.
