Youth Sports: Boys & Girls Club registration begins for basketball season

Registration starts on Tuesday for the Boys & Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon’s upcoming basketball season and concludes on Thursday, Nov. 20.

All boys and girls in grades 3 through 6 are eligible, but must register by the final date.

The fee is $60 with a current club membership. Scholarships and fee reductions are available for those who qualify.

All balances must be paid in full prior to athletes being placed on a team.

Practices may start as early as Dec. 1 and the first games will be held on Jan. 10, 2009.

Bay Area Sportsman’s Association sportsmanship and official awards for fall soccer and flag football games played on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Sportsmanship Awards

First grade soccer: Dave’s Pizza (Lighthouse/North Bay), coached by Emily Osborn.

Second grade soccer: South Coast Orthopaedics (Madison), coached by Jared Johnson.

Third grade soccer: Coos Bay Lions (Blossom Gulch), coached by Greg Reichenberger.

Fourth grade soccer: Books by the Bay (Lighthouse), coached by Brad Morse.

Third/fourth grade flag football: Honda World (Hillcrest DS), coached by Danny Steele.

Officials Awards

Fall Soccer — Professional: Clay Messerle. Hustle: Andrew Messinger.

Flag Football — Professional: Brady Ball. Hustle: Jordan Miles.

Soccer and flag football tournaments

Gary W. Long Construction, the Millicoma White team, won the fifth- and sixth-grade soccer tournament that concluded the fall soccer season through the Boys & Girls Club. The team was coached by Korryna Kohl and Steve Delgado.

Second place went to Lighthouse Tsunami (Lighthouse School/North Bend), coached by John Adams. Third place was Roseburg (Millicoma Green), coached by Robin Harkins.

Brad Ashby Construction (Reedsport Mean Machines) won the fifth- and sixth-grade flag football tournament. The team is coached by Deron Eunice.

Second place went to Knife River Materials (Bay Area), coached by Jess Alvillar. DB Western (Myrtle Point), coached by Ryan Woody, took third place.
