A windy day was in store for the South Coast today, and more rain is on the way.

The warm front moving through the area today prompted the National Weather Service to issue a high wind warning for coastal areas and minor flood advisories for inland areas that have poor drainage, particularly in the Willamette Valley.

Winds were supposed to pick up this morning, with gusts to around 55 mph, then diminish this evening, the Weather Service said. Gale-force winds, about 40 mph, could be prevalent on the near ocean waters north of Cape Blanco through much of Wednesday as well, as another cold front follows this warm front.

Inland, the Weather Service reported moderate to heavy rainfall in Willamette Valley urban areas. Standing water problems due to poor drainage could worsen as more rain falls today.

On the South Coast, 4.71 inches of rain has fallen so far this month, 1.70 inches above normal. However, since January, only 40.50 inches has fallen this year, 6.16 inches below normal.

It cracks me up to read these comments. 4.00 energy drinks on food stamps that has nothing to do with this article. Just another way for you old timers to stir things up. why is everyone so argumentative. you go to Arizona and enjoy your weather and those that choose to stay will be here enjoying whatever!

I have been stuck behind many old people in RV's on the 101, so dont go there. at least in AZ, nobody is buying 4.00 dollar energy drinks on food stamps. Get a job. Or go somewhere there is a job.

I had no idea there were so many out-of-towners reading The World online :)

FNORD said all that needed saying when he mentions living in Mesa which is in actuality greater Phoenix. That is not AZ by a long shot, and could be most closely related to living in Los Angeles. I don't for the AZ travel agency, but AZ is one of the most beautiful and diverse states I have ever enjoyed. I love the coast equally as well for its ambiance and beauty, but fot those curious would suggest a visit to the library and checking out a copy of Arizona Highways. Now that's AZ.

heh. tell me what the weather is like in Arizona after i lived there for five years. funny. It DOES get over 100 in May, and it did in 2007 when I was there visiting. Loved the mudstorms, the dust storms, the thunderstorms and the monsoon season. Stayed out of town as much as possible in the winter. If you haven't seen the giant motorhomes piloted by snowbirds putting along the roads 20 mph under the speed limit, you too have been driving with your eyes closed.

As with "7 years of abuse" i made it out of AZ without squashing a single golf cart or having been hit by a single motorhome.

For a short time, I lived in Mesa, where in the winter time the population triples, as does the accident rate. Good to get out of there in one piece.

Anyone want to spend a winter here in Wisconsin? I just love the snow and cant wait......

7 Years of Abuse wrote on Nov 11, 2008 1:58 PM:

I lived in Arizona for about 7 years, hated every summer! Loved the winters though. I also hated the temptation of running over seniors in golfcarts on the main roads. The temptation was almost too much for me, but I did good and ended up with 0 points. LOL

Thanks, al the pal, for the update. Only hope the Bandon Crossings course survives. As fnord said about the 110 temps its true in summer, but not likely in May. But will be home by then anyway.

Oliver wrote on Nov 11, 2008 1:47 PM:

I'm with you, Larry. Storm watching is great, but enough is enough at times. Visited AZ for a couple of winters before my wife passed and never saw a 50 foot motorhome going 10mph on a freeway. November through April were beautiful. FNORD must have been in Phoenix which would be anyone's mistake.

Linda wrote on Nov 11, 2008 12:32 PM:

I just wish I could afford a motor home to go to Arizona some day. It's not lookin' good.

fnord wrote on Nov 11, 2008 11:46 AM:

Already lived in AZ. You can keep it and your winter population tripling with 80-year-olds in 50-foot motorhomes going 10 mph on the freeway. And the May afternoons of 110 in the shade. I always loved the oregon coast winters.

Linda wrote on Nov 11, 2008 11:44 AM:

so where did the high wind warning go to?

Al the Pal wrote on Nov 11, 2008 11:01 AM:

Bandon has been washed away. Might as well stay in Az for the next couple of years!

I'll let you know when it's safe again.

Larry wrote on Nov 11, 2008 10:53 AM:

4.71 inches of rain? Well, today at noon here in AZ it is a dry and comfy 80 degrees, sunny, with a light wind out out of the SW at 6MPH. More expected in the days to come. Golf anyone?
Back to Bandon next Spring!
