Winds buffet coast; more rain ahead
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 10:27 AM PST
A windy day was in store for the South Coast today, and more rain is on the way.
The warm front moving through the area today prompted the National Weather Service to issue a high wind warning for coastal areas and minor flood advisories for inland areas that have poor drainage, particularly in the Willamette Valley.
Winds were supposed to pick up this morning, with gusts to around 55 mph, then diminish this evening, the Weather Service said. Gale-force winds, about 40 mph, could be prevalent on the near ocean waters north of Cape Blanco through much of Wednesday as well, as another cold front follows this warm front.
Inland, the Weather Service reported moderate to heavy rainfall in Willamette Valley urban areas. Standing water problems due to poor drainage could worsen as more rain falls today.
On the South Coast, 4.71 inches of rain has fallen so far this month, 1.70 inches above normal. However, since January, only 40.50 inches has fallen this year, 6.16 inches below normal. |
