Siuslaw advanced in the Class 4A playoffs by holding off a late Henley rally for a 16-13 victory at Florence on Friday.

It was the sixth straight year the Vikings have won a home playoff game.

Next up is a contest at Sky-Em champion Marist this week.

Siuslaw appeared to have the game in hand when Mike Bradley recovered a Henley fumble and kicked a field goal moments later to give Siuslaw a 16-6 lead with 3 minutes, 26 seconds to go.

But Henley quickly scored on a hook-and-ladder pass play. Quarterback John Cullen connected with Jordan Brewster. The Henley receiver then pitched to teammate Casey Evans, who completed the 29-yard touchdown with 2:54 remaining.

Henley forced the Vikings to punt, but ran out of time, when Evans was tackled on the final play at Siuslaw’s 27-yard line.

Siuslaw quarterback Jacob Mitchell scored both the Vikings’ touchdowns, on a 6-yard run in the first quarter and a 1-yard keeper early in the fourth. Mitchell finished with 98 yards rushing, but just 72 passing.

Henley scored just before halftime on a 23-yard pass from Cullen to Brewster, pulling the Hornets within 7-6.

Henley finished with 340 yards, to 267 for Siuslaw.

Bulldogs to play La Salle

North Bend learned Friday night that its opponent for the second round of the Class 4A playoffs next week will be La Salle.

The Falcons beat the Philomath 35-34 in double overtime in a first-round game at Portland. La Salle scored first in the second overtime and when the Warriors scored, Philomath went for the win with a two-point conversion and failed.

The second-round game is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Friday at Vic Adams Field. Admission is $6 for adults or $4 for students, but season ticket holders in North Bend can reserve their same seats for the playoff game for $8.

Those people who want to reserve their seats can do so between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday by stopping by the athletic department or calling 751-7160.

Seats that have not been sold by 4 p.m. Wednesday will be made available to the general public on a first-come, first-serve basis.
