Police nab robbery suspect

Friday, November 07, 2008 |
Police have tacked robbery, menacing and criminal trespassing onto a list of charges for a man arrested last week following a purse-snatching incident in downtown Coos Bay.
The new charges stem from an armed robbery case at a North Bend gas station on Oct. 27. A robber, described as a white man, went to the station around 8 p.m. and flashed a handgun at a Shell Gas Station attendant at 1805 Virginia Ave. He then fled, a North Bend Police Department press release said. Police didn’t find a suspect.
The next day, a man stole a woman’s purse from the dashboard of her car as she ate lunch in the vehicle in Coos Bay. She contacted an off-duty police officer who then chased him down. Officers arrested Brian Adam Gulseth, 18, on charges of unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, second-degree theft and third-degree robbery. He was taken to the Coos County jail on charges of second-degree theft, third-degree robbery, first-degree robbery and second-degree theft.
During the investigation police identified Gulseth as their armed robbery suspect, charging him with first-degree robbery, menacing and second-degree criminal trespassing. He has been listed as a Bandon and Coos Bay resident.
He remained in Coos County jail this morning on $535,000 bail.
