RIDDLE (AP) — Roseburg Forest Products says it has laid off almost 120 workers in Douglas County because of poor market conditions.

The layoffs have taken place during the past three weeks. They include 32 hourly and four salaried workers at the company’s plywood plant in Riddle; 54 hourly and five salaried workers at the particle board plant in Dillard; and 22 hourly workers at the plywood plant in Dillard.

The privately held company is the largest employer in Douglas County with about 2,100 workers after the layoffs. It employs about 3,600 workers across the country.

Company officials said they are unsure if the layoffs are permanent or temporary.

Tony: how does it work at the Coquille facility? Are layoffs based on seniority? or position? or a little of both?

Tony O wrote on Nov 8, 2008 7:09 AM:

Yes it's true Coquille is laying off 20 for now and they said more as the market goes down. I've worked there for 25+ and know this for a fact

Kee, if people were to check their facts before posting on here no one would ever post. There are the usual suspects who fire, aim and then load (blanks mostly). It is perfectly acceptable to hold people accountable for things they may have done for which there is no statute of limitations (Herbert Hoover gets no love here). We have frothers and philosophers and occasionally realists. The common theme is that this is Coos County and everyone is guilty regardless of their innocence and that is my story and I am sticking to it. Although I have to admit it is quite amusing at times until you discovered that they can read and write and your tax dollars probably paid for their wisdom.

Kee - my spouse was just laid off from there; it's most definitely true. Please suggest why you think otherwise.

Coos County resident's information is accurate. My employer is one of many dealing with this layoff as we speak. Employees are being met with by various county/state agencies re: unemployment insurance, job retraining, etc. as part of this layoff.

Maybe you need to check your info?

Kee, you may want to check your source. Coquille is on the hit list for about 20 jobs.

not so-Coquille is hiring and are fully staffed....check your information before you run your mouth.

Plus the 30+ at the Coquille facility.
