A quick joy ride went terribly wrong for a 12-year-old boy Wednesday, when he lost control of his mother’s car and rammed it into his family’s home.

At about 7 a.m. Coos County sheriff’s deputies received a report of the crash, involving a 2003 Honda Acura at 93406 Alabama Lane in Coos Bay.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Pat Downing said the vehicle pushed the house partially off its foundation, along with the chimney. The car also was totalled, he added.

Downing said the case is under investigation, and he doesn’t know if anyone will be cited.

 “It’s up to the officer what he’s going to do,” he said.
