The Bay Area Barracudas, an under-11 club soccer team, finished the regular season in second place in the top division of the Kidsports organization in Eugene and also placing second in the Kidsports Klassic Tournament.

The Barracudas had a 6-2-1 record in the Emerald division.

In the tournament, the Barracudas beat the Sheldon Fusion in the semifinals.

Kadie Forderer scored early for Bay Area from the top of the penalty box and the teams then settled into a defensive struggle until late in the match, when Emma Powley had a crossing pass to Damie Zomerschoe, who finished off the goal. Zomerschoe then added a breakaway goal to seal the win.

In the championship, the Barracudas faced the undefeated Sheldon Fighting Irish.

Midway through the first half, Powley scored for the Barracudas. Bay Area’s midfield and defense, and Forderer as goalkeeper, kept the Irish off the scoreboard until late in the second half. Sheldon added two late goals to pull out a 3-1 win.

Zomerschoe, Powley and Brianna Cole were the team’s attackers, while Brittany Crutchfield, Gabrielle Hobson and Kezia Eunice controlled the midfield and added a secondary scoring threat. Heather Whitty, McKenzie Edwards, Alexa Reed and Teyha Curley provided tough defense, while Forderer and Abbey Knight alternated at goalie and middle sweeper.

The Bay Area Soccer Club also had under-14 and under-12 boys teams that competed in the Kidsports League. The U-12 team finished 5-1-3 in league play, including wins over a few U-14 teams. The team was moved up to the U-14 bracket for the postseason tournament.

Both boys teams lost in the second round of the tournament.
