Community Sports, Fast Breaks for Nov. 1: Basketball officials needed for season

The Southwestern Oregon Basketball Officials Association is looking for members for the upcoming season.

The group provides officials for high school games from Reedsport to Brookings and junior high games from Florence to Brookings.

It will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 5 at the Millicoma Intermediate School library in Coos Bay. First-year officials are asked to come at 6:30 p.m., while the regular meeting, for new and returning officials, starts at 7:30 p.m.

The group then will hold regular meetings at the same time each week a Millicoma Intermediate School.

SCAT in action

The South Coast Aquatic Team started its winter swim season at the Marie DeHoog Fall Invitational in Springfield.

Ten members of the team competed in the event and SCAT swimmers James Verger and Kevin Waller, both swimmers at North Bend High School, each won distance freestyle races in the senior division.

Results for the team are listed in today’s Community Scoreboard.

Sportsmanship Awards

Bay Area Sportsman’s Association sportsmanship and official awards for fall soccer and flag football games played on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Third Grade Soccer — Gold Coast Truck Repair (North Bay/Christ Lutheran/Bunker Hill), coached by Domenica Mazzucci.

Fourth Grade Soccer — Jake’s Body and Paint (Reedsport BE), coached by Barbara Edel.

Fifth/Sixth Grade Soccer — Gary W. Long Construction (Millicoma White), coached by Korryna Kohl.

Third/Fourth Grade Flag Football — North Bend Lanes (Hillcrest MR/BL), coached by Mike Rose and Bill Lucero.

Fifth/Sixth Grade Flag Football — Brad Ashby Construction (Reedsport), coached by Deron Eunice.

Officials Awards

Fall Soccer — Professional: Hannah Francis. Hustle: Nathan Forderer.

Flag Football — Professional: Dom Hunnicutt. Hustle: Derek Duenas.
