Powers saw its season come to an end with a 78-22 loss at Camas Valley on Friday.
George Lewis had two 80-yard touchdowns for the Cruisers — one on a kickoff return and the other on a run — and Cameron Perreault scored on a 21-yard pass from Kyle Blanton.
Lewis rushed for 155 yards on 20 carries.
Chase Elliott had three touchdown receptions, while Kurt Dever had two rushing touchdowns for Camas Valley. Ryan Dancer had four touchdown passes.
The Cruisers finished with just one win with a young rosters.
“We had our struggles this year,” first-year head coach Nick Gonzales said. “One thing about these kids is they never gave up. We’re returning 12 for next year from this team. We have a lot of work ahead.”
Gonzales praised Camas Valley and the other teams in the Skyline League for honoring 2008 Powers graduate Cody Armstrong, who was killed in a hunting accident last weekend. Some squads wore No. 99 stickers in Armstrong’s honor.
“We’ve had a tough time in our community with the loss of Cody this week, but all the teams in our league have been really class acts having moments of silence for Cody in their games,” he said. “I’d like to tell all these other communities, ‘Thank you for their prayers and thoughts.’” |
